For fun, a bunch of DN fanartists got together and contributed artwork to a 2009 calendar. My months were January and July.January is already over so I thought it'd be okay to post this.

January was a hard month to come up with ideas for. I knew that I'd have to include everybody since it's such an important month in DN's timeline.
I decided a rectangular collage would be the best and most fun way to go about this when I saw an illustration by Chris Ware that played with the idea of panel while, at the same time, revealing the life and memories of one of his characters. While this definitely is not as complicated as his illustration, I'd still like to mention the influence anyway.
Funny enough, the Mikami and Takada parts were the most fun to come up with ideas for and the task force was the most fun to draw. The Mello/Near/Matt section was the most difficult because I like the characters so much that I wanted to do my best at portraying them. The parts with Light were also very hard to do because I had to set aside how I saw him and draw that person behind that Death Note.

I really like how everyone is featured here, especially for Light's mum and Sayu!

For some reason Miss Tacky and Teru's panels were the first I came up with. And Sayu's hair was so fun to draw. It's so soft and feathery.

I've always loved this pic, you did such a wonderful job! It's so detailed, and it's also very original. I love all the scenes and situations you portrayed, some displayed in canon, while some others are simply part of the characters lives that are still there even if the manga didn't focus on them. It makes the characters feel more real, each of them with their own independent life (^^)

I really loved the summer theme for July, where all the SPK members are at the beach...Near looked absolutely adorable in what he was wearing but the whole picture itself was amazing too!It must have been fun thinking and drawing it up^^
Curious though, is the item Hal holding in her right hand but got cut off, a book?

It was a very fun project to be a part of. And that July picture was pretty fun but also a bit difficult because I kept feeling displeased with the color balance and Gevanni's chest. Still, I'm glad that it's at least very colorful.
And yes, she's holding a book. ;D

I bet it was,I'm so happy you were part of something so cool as a calendar project lol if I had money I would have bought it by now,you guys worked so hard on it and it really shows in the calendar.You guys are just amazing!
I'm sure it must have been difficult cause it looked really good, I don't know about the colors cause haha I really enjoyed the bright colors of the summer scene but hm I guess Gevanni's chest could use a bit of work...But that's anatomy, not an easy thing to conquer but think of this as a step to perfection!

I wanted to buy this, but my dad was all "RUOIOUS WE CAN GET CALENDERS FOR A DOLLAR D< DON'T BUY THAT" ;____________; I really like the pictures too OTL and you drew the cover so well too! All the of the adventures put into cute rectangles/squares =v=
