I am assuming that Artemis loves her twin in a not brother-like way? I have no problem with that, by the way; they aren't even human. Hmm, but since they can never quite be together, as she sees in the examples of Helios and Selene, did she choose to be a virgin goddess?
Man, you got a lot of story planned out for this dramatic family don't you Zelda? Can't wait!Β

Between their determinations, I wonder who shall win in your canon.Β
Beautiful work! I'm a total fan.

Is it Artemis like a goddes of chastity? Like she can't fall in love with men?
π: 0 β©: 2
IceQueen987 In reply to Animegirl2800 [2014-04-27 03:11:07 +0000 UTC]
In the original Greek canon, because Artemis helped birth her twin right after she was born (fully grown btw and same with Apollo) she was horrified and never wanted children. So she swore of men. However, she does fall in love with Orian but she accidentally kills him b/c Apollo tricks her and she mourns his death. So, she can love but choses not to because she fears the pain of childbirth (b/c back then there was no contraceptive sans chastity).

where did you read that artemis kissed orion? ah my fangirl feels are so messed up now i need more info!

IceQueen987 In reply to DarlingDiamond [2014-08-31 03:40:17 +0000 UTC]
She never did. She did kill him though.
Orion was a very skilled hunter and was occasionally a hunting companion of Artemis. She fell in love with him but kept quiet about it. Apollo figured it out and tricked her into killing him (his motive was unclear and it depends which myth you read).
I very much hate how so many paint Artemis as a "man hater". There is a difference between having no wish to be with them sexually or romantically but still respecting them as human beings and another to hate men just because of their sex. :/

i agree with you,
artemis and orion are one of my fave greek mythology couples, they are so cute if only apollo didn't ruin everything..Β

Some say he tricked her out of jealousy. Some say to make sure she kept her celibacy vow. I believe the former personally.

Ah, see, the text they refer to is of Roman origin (since her Roman form s called Diana). I tend to try to go as far back as I can and so I refer to Greek texts. In no Greek telling does Orion try to rape her and thus kills him for it.

ah roman mythology is just a creepy copy of greek mythology!

IceQueen987 In reply to DarlingDiamond [2014-09-02 20:07:10 +0000 UTC]
From a historical pov, Roman mythos is interesting in that, in order to promote harmony and religious tolerance in their Empire, the copied/adopted a lot of the mythos of the people they conquered.
Actually, the goddess Hekate (Hecate) wasn't originally a Greek goddess; it turns out she was a Thracian Goddess that was VERY popular and followed in northern and northeastern Greece, so she was adopted into the pantheon as a Titan goddess.
Cool huh?

yeah, they kinda took a lot of different myth and mixed them into one, that's easier than making up your own!
and i love hecate, she should appear in more myths and in zelda's comics!

I know Zelda's got a lot on her plate so I'd understand if she didn't draw her. I actually have a particular image of Hecate so... XD

Yeah, no matter how you spin it, they have a deep bond which I do love very much. ^^ Most people can get behind that unlike some of the dingy-like ships I've got XD

It could just be sisterly love. Also Artemis' chasitity is special as Zeus give her a loophole that if she wanted to, she could revoke her chastity vows.Β

gretchen0693 In reply to fbi12345 [2014-03-08 16:50:44 +0000 UTC]
I think it goes way beyond sisterly love if she's willing to go so far... and as a response to Animegirl12800 i'm willing to bet that it's because she Β loves her brother so much that she can't love men... if you love someone but can never have them ... it kinda puts you off everyone else.

Not really. Zeus married HIS sister after all. Posiedon once did Demeter and All the titans married their sisters so its pretty fine.Β

Gods and Titans are one of their own kind, unique in a sense. They're different from mankind (which they created) so it's pretty much understandable why their partners are generally also their relatives.

Considering that they are literally born from rocks(literally since Gaia is the origin of every single divine being in mythology). I pretty much understand that DNA is probably not even a factor here.Β

Probably, thinking that consanguinity doesn't cause troubles as in humankind, that's a fact. So i assumed "their kind" is simply different from ours.

It's like reading about a little girls transformation from innocence to badass. Like you start reading and her voice is a three-year-old's but it gets older and older til you've the the harsh tone of what a traditional Artemis would have.
