Description Run, rabbit run.
Dig that hole, forget the sun,
And when at last the work is done
Don't sit down it's time to dig another one.
---Breathe-Pink Floyd

Rabbits have always been seen as a connection to Earth. They spend most of their time below ground, digging burrows. Most only come up to eat in the early morning or dusk.

I used watercolors, a brush-tip pen, masking-fluid, and liquid white paint.

Are there rabbits in Africa? Because that bunny's tattoo is almost identical to one of the motifs used in Lion King.

Actually there are some like the Riverine Rabbit and several hares. I was going for a more Southwest/ Australian-Aboriginal feel. XD Ah well, people will see what the see.

I love how all the colors correspond with one each other. They fit together very well. The background looks very natural and you can really tell you know what you're doing. I never tried watercolors, but it looks hard. I think you used them very nicely! <3 Great job! -faves-

Thank you. Watercolors really are not terribly difficult but you've got to just sort of 'go with the flow' as they are less forgiving than other traditional media.

If you ever do try 'em, get a student tube-set. The round palettes are not good for mixing.

I'm too poor for watercolors
I have some, but they're the cheap ones you get at the dollar store.
My sister used them before, shes a way better artist then I am [link]

Maybe someday I'll ask her for help 8D

Oh and thanks for the tips!

Wow, this is amazing. I love the line and the spattering in the background. It reminds me a bit of El-ahrairah, the rabbit prince from the mythology of Watership Down.

I'm ot sure if it was intentional, but I think it's a cool little detail that you can see the pencil lines beneath the sun pattern on his back. It adds a kind of rough looseness to the form.

Still, I have never. Once. Seen a rabbit used as an earth element. <<<< That's a good thing.

very nice! it has a pleasing, yet simplistic concept, and trememnous hommage goes to the spiral sun on his back.

the rabbit reminds me of a Jackrabbit, and the symbol on his back plus how the background reminds me of a redrock canyon, give this a very southwestern usa/native american look....very, very cool

If I may ask though, if he's an earth-rabbit, why does he have a sun on his back?

either way, good luck!

Weavrrcat In reply to PippinIncarnate [2007-04-19 21:39:49 +0000 UTC]

I absolutly have no idea...maybe it's because where he lives ,Teepee Canyon, (home of Teepee Canyon agate) the sun beats down and dries the ground to rock-hardness. Hence he has to spend more time digging into the ground to start a burrow, that the imprint of the sun was burned onto his back.

Or else he's a spirit Hare who was sent by the Sun to guide the mortal Lapines.

Either way it needed a design on it's back.

cool story! I really admire the fact that this is an EARTH rabbit, meaning he represents stone and clay and minerals...it really bugs me when people create earth creatures that are all foresty. if you want to do that, call it a forest creature. I think the reason for that association is phrases such as "Earth Friendly" which makes earth synonomous with the living environment. but in my opinion, living things aren't elements, and trees are living things! so, Go you!
