Reads Right to Left like the original Japanese manga!!!

Dear Battler: Please stop looking different every frikkin' time I draw you. Kthnx.

I made Virgilia's anime-wand smaller, because in the anime it's practically a beating stick. I mean damn. It's huge!

LESSON TIME!!!

This is one of the things that I believe Dante and Battler have the most in common: an often mistaken faith in their fellow humans. Dante pities many of the inhabitants of hell several times, and is frequently reprimanded by Virgil for doing so; they are sinners, but Dante only sees them as suffering humans. Likewise, Battler--especially in the earlier Episodes--was so trusting in the others on Rokkenjima that he repeatedly refused to accept any of them as potential culprits. This is a sort of sweet trait, but also a weakness for them both.

This first meeting of Sinners is also most notably one of the few times Dante never speaks to one. As you’ll see in the future, he is often asked to speak to a representative or two of each group of Sinners and record what they say for later to teach lessons, but these people in particular are forbidden from being recorded other than being witnessed.

Um, why is Battler getting flung thirty feet magically? Okay, okay. This part doesn't actually happen in Dante's Inferno. What really happens is that Dante faints. No, I kid not. Dante is prone to fainting at random moments, probably because Dante-the-poet uses them as transitions for awkward moments. Battler doesn't strike me as the fainting type, so I had to figure out a different way to get the pass-out-transition across. Well I suppose he'd pass out after getting flung thirty feet and landing painfully....eheheh....(Besides, it's so fun to pick on Battler. So. Fun.)

Originally the River Charon passes before the gate of Hell. I kinda-sorta forgot to draw it though So...it's not here. It's okay, Dante faints before he crosses it anyway, so he doesn't remember it.

As always, credit to for the texture brushes used here!

I must say, I enjoyed reading this and shall await for future pages. C:

I haven't read Divine Commedia yet, but I may do so in the near future since Umineko references or alludes to it very much. But, thank you for creating this~ xD

Glad you're enjoying it!

Dante's Divine Commedia can be challenging, but if you're willing to put in the work for it, also very rewarding Don't sit down expecting to read through it like one might Harry Potter or The Dresden Files or any other fun reads. It will require having footnotes, indexes, and/or access to some sort of Sparknotes online, especially since Dante can be extremely vague. But in the end it's very interesting and you learn a hella lot. Not to mention there's plenty of parallels to see for Umineko specifically when you read it with that in mind (I was reading Purgatorio at the same time my friend was reading one of the EPs ahead of me, and we were stunned at how much of the stuff related).

Paradiso is a pain in the butt though. >>; <<;

Anyway I hope you enjoy future installments (because there totally will be more )

Thank you for giving me and other interested commentators your suggestions! I'll make sure to consult additional resources and notes as I begin to read Divine Commedia~ Lately (er.. starting from last year), I've been reading literature I felt that I should have read long ago, but I never got the chance to. I'll add Divine Commedia on the list as well an hope I can read it soon.

I've thoroughly enjoyed your rendition so far so I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy the rest. I find it very cute that you're adapting it with Umineko characters lool. That alone excites me and other fans in what you'll come up with, especially those who aren't acquainted with Dante's works yet. xD

No problem As an avid reader myself, I love encouraging others to get into good books whenever I can And I totally know what you mean, I keep going back and reading classics and such just cause I feel like I should. Some of them are more enjoyable than I thought they'd be

I really like these, I found one and read them all, you're doing a fantastic job~! It's making me want to read Inferno for myself, but I really have no idea if I could stick something like that out.

Glad you're enjoying it so far! And yes, Battler makes some...uh...very funny faces. A lot.

Dante's Inferno (or really the entire Divine Commedia ) can sometimes be a bit of a challenge. Especially as 'fun' or 'light' reading, because light it is not. If you do pick it up, get a good, recent edition, preferably one that doesn't try to rhyme the translation. The original Italian version Dante wrote is a rhyming poem, but when they translate it over the rhymes don't always work in another language. Some translators try to force it, which ends up making a very complicated read. I'd personally suggest Robert and Jean Hollander's translated edition...it's very easy to read, plus they add lots of extra notes at the end of each Canto/chapter to help explain certain things.

Sorry to walloftext at you Thanks for reading, hope you enjoy future installments of this comic!

Oh no, that's absolutely fine - I tend to prefer walloftext answers XD Thank you for the advice, if I do decide to buy it, then I'll definitely look into the edition you recommend.
Good luck continuing the rest of it! I personally can't do comics, and you're doing an amazing job with it so far.

I already told you most of what I thought about this on AIM, but here's a freebie:

When Battler screams getting tossed, I can't help but hear Daisuke Ono screaming.
