Description I was testing my new camera when I had the idea of taking photos of a few steps of my current drawing ^^. And here it is!
This isn't a real tutorial because I'm not a professional artist, it's just to show how I proceed. So if you have any ideas about how I could progress, it would be very helpful .
And please excuse my English too, it isn't my native language (that's the first time I type such a long text in English o_o).

Thanks for the help!! Very useful.

Quick question: About the water colour pencils, does it HAVE to be water colour? Or could you use normal color pencils too?

You're welcome ^^.
You can use any kind of pencils.
Though the water colours ones can be useful to "blur" some of the lines.

Lovely drawing~
So do you wet the paper or the colors itself...or both? i'm confused :/

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Vassantha In reply to pwoperzoo [2011-08-19 19:07:36 +0000 UTC]

Thank you ^^.
In fact I do both, sorry if it was confusing .
Wetting the paper allows you to apply the watercolour in an homogeneous way, while wetting the colors allows you to adjust its tone (the more water you add, the lighter it will be) .

i see...so is it okay if i don't wet the paint too much? because i feel like i'm treating my watercolor paint like normal paint

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Vassantha In reply to pwoperzoo [2011-08-22 12:11:00 +0000 UTC]

Of course it's okay, it depends on your tastes ^^.
Personally, I don't wet the paint a lot (except for very large areas).

this is really helpful! i always wanted to try painting using watercolor, but i suppose i'm just too lazy to find some tutorials over the net (i'm no art student, too, so.. yeah). Thanks very much!

Thank you! I'm glad it can be of any help. Watercolor is so cool and convenient (doesn't require as much time and technics as oil painting XD).

well thats wonderful! Thank you!

But i was wondering...did you tape your piece onto a board or something?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Vassantha In reply to kouteri [2010-06-26 10:38:05 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome ^^.
I didn't have to tape the paper because its edges were already glued to the block. It's really convenient to prevent the paper from being distorted by the water.

kouteri In reply to Vassantha [2010-06-26 14:03:05 +0000 UTC]

But did you have to wet the paper fully before glueing it on the block? o.0

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Vassantha In reply to kouteri [2010-06-27 18:36:50 +0000 UTC]

No, I don't usually wet the whole paper. But I know that some people do, I guess it depends on what effect you want to obtain.
In fact I didn't glued the paper myself, it was sold like that, which is very convenient in my opinion ^^.

u are professional indeed, thanks for sharing this
if u pardon me, may i ask what colors should use for skin?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Vassantha In reply to nicholastse [2010-01-22 06:05:09 +0000 UTC]

Thank you .
For the skin, I use a mix of red+yellow (=orange) and use a lot of water so that it remains light. For tanned skin I add some burnt umber and a touch of black.

Vassantha In reply to elfthekiller [2009-10-18 13:26:28 +0000 UTC]

Honestly, I don't know . I find watercolor in pot more convenient to mix colors but this is only my personal taste . But I refill the pots from watercolor in tube anyway .
Sorry for not being able to answer clearly, but now I'm interested in this question too ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

elfthekiller In reply to Vassantha [2009-10-19 08:47:03 +0000 UTC]

no it isn't ! its very clearly for me

so, its not make a big differences if i use in tube than in pot, right ??

sorry if i have so much question

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Vassantha In reply to elfthekiller [2009-10-19 09:48:00 +0000 UTC]

Well, indeed for me it isn't a big difference ^^. But as I said I'm not a pro so I don't really know, maybe it depends on the brand too.
There's no problem with questions, on the contrary I feel very honoured that people ask me .

I am ALWAYS torn about watercolors -- I want to use them more, but I never know what to do about all the pencil I use, and no one has ever offered an explanation. Thank you so much for answering the question that's kept me from them! <3

You're welcome Pencils and watercolor really go well together, acrylics too but not as much in my opinion.
