Good question. Yes, when Smaug fell into lake, he also fell into deep sleep with low water temperature.
Two years had past before the wizard pulled him out of water, and he found Bilbo within 36 hours. Sorry for the neglected explanation.

Ah, but I never was so sure if the tree was really upon Bilbo's Hobbithole or in his backyard.
However with Smaug (as a Dragon) on the Hobbithole or in the backyard, doesn't matter his house would still be no more.
