Description Equipped a brittle old tree branch, Emily slogged forward through the squishy marsh on a tenuous mission to help her friend. Both of the girls knew the pathetic stick of wood had little chance of having enough leverage to winch blonde Susanna out of the quicksand's vice-like suction. But in this desolate place, it seemed like the only escape method that could offer a glimmer of hope.

Thanks Toby! I've long admired your classic and inimitable art style! I'll try to post something new soon... messing around with cleaner line-art, with mixed results.

I like the "big view" look you drew in this piece, and, yes, the reflection of the gals in the mud is a nice touch. Add it to the vast void depicted in the background and it gives the feeling that this is a mud flat at low tide.

The footprints are an excellent touch, showing how thick the mud is, and your description of the "vice-like suction" of the quicksand goes well with the strong suction that thick mud can form around its victims.

Very nicely done! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks water-bug! I saw some TV documentary when I was a kid where some explorer-types were crossing a vast mud flat to get to a small skiff boat. Someone sank into a deep spot, and everyone else entered a battle to rescue them from the literal sea of mud. That scene would account for my love of "big view" mud scenery! I only wish I knew what show it was. It could have been National Geographic or something.

Nice, effective color sketch. I like the reflections on the wet surface of the mud. Nice work, thanks for posting it.

Thanks Pete!! I think it has sort of messy sub-standard linework. I need to do a picture with good linework AND coloring!
