Time to give my take on Betty’s origin, which I recommend you check my Amber rework for further context!
It explains more of the writing choices and where Amber’s redesign comes into play.

Cami ended up making a couple pages of comics—which you can find in the Glitchtale Wiki Bible—that details concepts of Betty being awakened after the destruction of the barrier. One of them, is where she finds a piece of Amber’s torn skirt in the old house she’s in during Love PT.1, wandering off to a nearby cave that happens to have Agate’s remains inside. It’s revealed that Agate’s soul is inside Betty, and that she had amnesia of skin walking her dead sister or something. Yeah. It’s never shown in the actual show where Betty emerged from, aside from her short prequel episode that should’ve been more fleshed out imo. Mind you, nor is it really explained why Agate had to wait for the Barrier to be destroyed in order to enact her plan and gone into the underground to kill the monsters for herself, but I digress.

After the destruction of the Barrier, the spell which Agate had cast long ago to conceal her soul within Amber’s body, emerged from its thousands of years in slumber. Breaking free from its unholy cocoon, the Betê Noire went on to bring about her reign of terror…

To create the Barrier, the Wizards linked their souls together which infused an arcane connection with it, being able to sense its status from a far. However, this was done so at the sacrifice of a portion of their soul’s magic, thus breaking the spell would restore their lost power. To Agate’s hibernating soul, this would provide the boost of strength it needed to finally reemerge. The remains of the disintegrating cocoon behind her, would funnel into the creation of Akumu, which would assist in devouring souls once it fully formed.

However, reawakening alone won’t do. No, she needed more EXP. More LOVE.

She would spend the next months of Monsters being on the surface alongside Humans to carefully craft her plan, blend in amongst her modern kind, and inevitably carry out her mission.

-Hey that wound looks familiar.

-I’d like to imagine being trapped like a mosquito in Amber, her corpse would’ve been just as preserved.

-Wasn’t sure how to feel about Betty & Akumu having half of a soul, hence why Akumu is a separate creation.

-When Amber was attacked, she not only ripped her skirt, but her corset broke after a failed attempt by Agate struck the laces during the struggle. Her skirt was torn after Agate blasted debris to slow her escape, the rest is history.

-Taking an idea from Cami’s comic, I showed Agate’s skeleton having faded clothes and her bones being yellowed + some moss grown onto it, as I’d imagine nature would’ve taken it over by this point.

-As a dark idea, I think Betty would’ve killed somebody and took their clothing, aka the clothes we see her in when she meets Frisk in REGT.
