Description
Lithops lericheana in flower. Lithops ("Living Stones") have evolved to disappear into their desert environment of Southern Africa, making them more difficult for plant eaters to spot. When the infrequent rains come, wild flowers and succulents cover the desert with colorful displays. Just as suddenly, the vibrancy recedes into arid pastels. During long dry spells, Lithops drain moisture from the old leaves to replace them with a fresh set.
