Tamora Pierce fanart, from 'Lioness Rampant'. For competition. George and Alanna's proposal scene. Mostly drawn because I never see George fanart!
Unfortunetly, I do not have a copy of the book at university, so I had to rely on my mmory to draw from. I have no idea if I got the clothes right. I believe Alanna was wearing desert clothing. I think George was too, but here I've drawn him in normal clothes.

i actually remember that line in the book. and thats special fro me cos i never remember anything. I love alanna. i'm so glad she chose george. he was always my favourite character. now that i think of it i might read the books again...

Those two blushing is so cute. This is one of my favorite scenes, when they finally hook up. IMHO sleeping around is like recreation, Alanna's relations are more about the emotion then the sex.

Thank you for the comment! Yes... I think she originally wrote a few chapters with Alanna and Jonathan actually married, but changed it because it 'didn't feel right' or something similar. That always intrigued me.

I'm happy she wrote that Alanna had more than one love interest. It made her a very realistic character. Instead of the stigma that girls should only get one guy or else they're whore's for sleeping around... *twitch* But yeah

This is just my opinion, but I think if you are a consenting adult, with common sense, and is truthful to your partner(s) what have you, then 'sleeping around' doesn't not categorize you as a whore.
A whore, in my definition, is someone who sleeps around without thinking of other's wellbeing or themselves. But again, just my opinion. Being with the person you love, however many (or less) that turns out to be, should never be about what you can get out of it. It's gotta be what is shared, and supported by both.

I think no. I think the label 'whore' is very easy to throw around these days. As you say, Alanna was honest to her three love interests about her past, and she never slept around with no thoughts or intending to hurt anyone. I also think because of the hard tasks she had, she really needed to be loved. Of course sleeping around with multiple partners is in general wrong, but at least Alanna was properly over with Jon before she slept with George-- and (I think) in all three relationships, though less so with Liam, there was a degree of proper love. I've never seen Alanna as a lust driven character.

Ahh, I see I used 'sleeping around' rather sloppily back there. To me 'sleeping around' means sleeping with anyone, without much thought or consideration or heed for consequences. So what I wrote about Alanna 'she never slept around with no thoughts or intending to hurt anyone' is an oxymoron. *slaps self* What I meant was she thought before sleeping with each of her three men, and didn't do anything heedlessly.

I believe there is true love and blah blah blah, but it rarely happens and too many people think that they got it. (Only to break up 2 weeks later) So for Alanna to end up with a guy who she didn't have relations with first is pretty darned cool. I think it is even cooler than her and Jonathan stay friends. Most of the time to have a relationship develope after being lovers, is more rare than True Love.

Indeed, and it shows that even though Alanna and Jonathan don't continue as lovers, they can continue their strong link of friendship without it. And after all they go through, I think that really shows its strength.
